Making a difference...

The education system in Australia is one of the best in the World, and every student should really be aware of just how lucky and blessed they are to have the opportunities which a quality education can bring to their lives.

In terms of education - Australia still is The Lucky Country.

However one of the drawbacks of such an extensive curriculum is that it does not successfully teach students about the financial traps and risks they will be exposed to from a very young age.

Through 24/7 media exposure and influential peer group behaviour, our young people are constantly bombarded with images and role models of what is supposed to be a 'successful' life. The way we look, the things we have, even our attitudes are moulded by external influences.

Nowhere is this more prevalent than in the financial sphere...

Easy access to debt, a widespread belief that what you have is more important than who you are, and the constant manipulation of our attitudes to money is ongoing,  where the 'buy now - pay later' mantra is sent through every TV, mobile phone, laptop and iPad, 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

The financial choices we make can effect us for years, decades and sometimes the rest of our lives.

Here at The MONEY GAME we want to make a difference, and we have developed a Financial Awareness seminar specifically tailored for 15-21 y/olds.

Our interactive Program picks out the most relevant aspects of the financial world these young people are about to enter, and gives them an overview of what they really need to be aware of to ensure they do not fall into the traps which so many have done before.

Our seminars cover:

  • Australia's changing demographic landscape and why being able to look after yourself financially is becoming so critical
  • The Banking system - how to play and win
  • An overview of the Superannuation system, what it is and how to make sure you get the most from it
  • A case study on buying a car - new vs old and the ramifications of each decision
  • Financial Wellbeing & Success - what does this really look like?
  • Gambling - what are the odds?
  • A case study of 2 families - one who understands the power of compound interest and one which doesn't, and the life-changing effects this can have

And finally we run a quiz to test the new understanding of the group and have a discussion/Q&A around any other aspects they would like to know more about.

For schools, our Seminar format can also be modified to work in-step with complimentary modules in subjects such as Maths and in-house Financial Literacy programs
